Nursing BSN Program FAQ's
FAQ’s
- Can I take Nursing prerequisites in the summer?
Yes, many of these courses are offered in the summer at other colleges, and we currently offer a limited number of them here too. Students should submit a course transfer request in order to know whether another college’s course will cover a prerequisite. - What if my planned summer course isn't equivalent to one of the Nursing prerequisites?
Students should consult with the Nursing Director as similar courses could still satisfy a Nursing prerequisite.
- Am I able to get a minor while studying Nursing?
Yes, but students should work with an advisor to carefully consider courses. Consider Spanish!
- Can I study abroad as a Nursing student?
Yes, but students should work with an advisor to carefully consider courses. Summer travel may be applicable.
- What happens if I get an insufficient grade in a Nursing course?
Fundamental courses are to prepare for nursing courses and must be passed at a C (2.0) or higher and only repeated one time. Nursing courses must be passed at a C+ (2.3) or higher and only repeated one time. Since each course in a given semester is a prerequisite for the following semester, a student would have to repeat the course in the following semester and fill their schedule with core and/or minor requirements.
- What GPA is needed to enter the Nursing Program as a sophomore?
Minimum requirements for admission to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (BSN) will include the following:
- Successful completion of 27 credits at a regionally accredited college or university.
- Minimum cumulative college grade point average of 3.0.
- Minimum cumulative college grade point average of 3.0 for science courses.
- Where are nursing clinicals and how do they work?
Clinicals can be at Yale New Haven Health, Gaylord Specialty Hospital, Connecticut Hospice, or a number of other facilities, as our clinical partnerships
continue to increase. Students always are with an Albertus RN nursing instructor but cannot pick clinical sites. Our hope is to provide diverse healthcare experience. Therefore, students will need reliable transportation since carpooling is not guaranteed. All 6 nursing semesters have clinical (it's the best part of nursing school).
- Will the BSN prepare me to take the NCLEX-RN licensing exam at the end?
ATI NCLEX-RN test prep is woven into each nursing class throughout the whole program as students prepare to pass the licensure exam.
