New Date: Albertus Magnus College Hosts Special S’mores & Tours Edition of Esports Camp
December 13 is New Event Date
New Haven, Conn., December 8, 2021 – Albertus Magnus College is hosting a special S’mores and Tours edition of its popular Esports Camp. It will be held on Monday, December 13 at 6pm in the Hubert Campus Center, 305 Huntington Street in New Haven. Open to prospective high school and college-aged students, the event features hands-on learning where participants can see how education, gaming, and Esports are all interconnected.
Originally scheduled for December 1, the camp was postponed due to last minute scheduling issues.
The event helps to kick off Albertus’ new Esports Administration/Management Minor starting in Spring 2022. Now in its 96th year, Albertus has continuously responded to the educational needs of students as well as the skills demanded by businesses -- and competitive video gaming is no different. This is a rapidly growing, billion dollar industry with players from around the world vying for millions of dollars in prize money in front of an audience of 400 million people yearly. It also requires the kind of critical thinking skills that are at the core Albertus’ values and liberal arts based education
At Albertus, there is already a Gaming and Esports Club that meets weekly. And coming soon, there will be a Competition and Esports Venue at the College. A room in the Hubert Campus Center is being outfitted as an Esports suite in which students will challenge each other, use recreationally, or learn in a specialized classroom. In the near future, Albertus will be looking to network with other schools’ Esports programs throughout the United States.
For those interested in working in the booming and diverse Esports industry, Albertus offers the following majors: Game and Computer Arts, Business Management, Sport Management, Communications, and Computer Information Systems.
