Albertus Magnus College Underscores Safe, Independent Residential Living with New Security Grant

Announcement Comes as Albertus Welcomes Families to Accepted Student Day

New Haven, Conn., March 16, 2023 Albertus Magnus College is ready to welcome new Falcon Families on March 25 – the first of two Accepted Student Days.  All the fun and information on how to start soaring begins at 11:00 a.m. at the recently renovated Hubert Campus Center – the “Living Room” of the College.  The second Accepted Student Day is scheduled for April 16.

As families get acquainted with everything from mock classes to career services, they’ll get to see first-hand the experience of life on campus at Albertus – and that includes everything from dining to residential lifeSafety and security is always a high priority at Albertus which is why the College is pleased to announce that it is a recipient of a 2023 Connecticut Nonprofit Security Grant Program (CT-NSGP).  The $50,000 will go to expanding and upgrading already robust security efforts at the 490 Prospect address on the 50+ acres campus in the distinguished Prospect Hill neighborhood of New Haven, Connecticut.

“The resources brought to bear by this grant will enhance our public safety and residence life team’s response in the event of an emergency. Having robust remote access control systems are paramount in any resident hall settings,” said Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students Andrew Foster.

At Albertus first-year students live in more traditional dormitory-style housing where they get to know their fellow classmates.  Albertus upperclassman have the luxury of living in historic mansions for a more community-style setting.  The apartments at 490 Prospect are reserved for juniors, seniors, and graduate students for more independent living.

“We will install additional signage and closed-circuit cameras with the bulk of the grant going to card access systems in the three buildings at 490 Prospect.  This is one of the best ways to control access to any building and will add additional peace of mind to students and families alike,” said Albertus’ Director of Public Safety John Ritchie.

Renovations are planned to begin this summer so everything is in place for the new fall semester.
