Albertus Magnus College Announces William J. Doyle Award
New $1000 Scholarship for New Students Who Evoke Qualities of Longtime Board of Trustee
Dedication. Perseverance. Transformation. These are the qualities embodied by the late William J. (Bill) Doyle, an Albertus Magnus College Board of Trustee member for 20 years. In April, Doyle lost his valiant fight against COVID-19. He is remembered as an accomplished attorney, a humble servant to the community, and a loyal member of the Albertus Family. Not only is he being honored at the Class of 2020 Commencement Ceremony on September 27 with a posthumous honorary doctorate, but now Albertus has created a scholarship in his name, reflecting his passionate championing of a liberal-arts and valued-based education such as that distinctly offered by Albertus Magnus, because it changes lives – and because it changed his.
“Bill was the first person to say he wasn’t a perfect student. In fact, academically, he acknowledged he was far from a 4.0 student. But he was off-the-charts when it came to potential – potential that was seen in him by people of faith. He received a Glee Club scholarship to enable his college career at Fairfield University. Here at Albertus, our motto reads, “We Have Faith in Your Future,” so we honor Bill by offering a scholarship to a select number of first-year students who we believe demonstrate the perseverance and potential that defined Bill Doyle,“ said Albertus Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing, Andrea Kovacs.
Twenty-one new students, thus far, have accepted the Doyle Award as part of their financial aid and scholarship package for the new academic year at Albertus Magnus College. Of this distinctive group, 16 are from Connecticut, 11 are first-generation students, eight are student-athletes, five are international students, and attended a Catholic institution.
