Motivated? Disciplined? Intrigued about pursuing a topic, theme, or cross-cultural project that involves a variety of domains? Then you’ll want to major in Humanities at Albertus Magnus College.
Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities work with an advisor to outline a program focused on five of the following subjects: Art, Communications, English, History, Languages and Culture, and Philosophy and Religion.
All first-year students participate in the Invitation to Insight core program that uses current media technologies, innovative instructional methods and learning teams to view the human journey from the broad perspective of the humanities.

Create Your Flexible Humanities Schedule
Offered in an accelerated format, most students can complete their Humanities degree in a year and a half while only having to take two classes at a time.
Students choose between the following:
Online
- Take 1 to 2 classes every 8 weeks
- Work from the comfort of your own home
- Have the ability to work on assignments on your own time, at your own pace
Blended
- Take 1 to 2 classes every 8 weeks
- Classes are a combination of in-class session and online assignments
- Attend class on campus one night per week, while all other assignments are done from the comfort of home
- Benefit from in-class discussions while completing projects and assignments from home
FLEX
- Choose to take classes in either a blended or online format
- Select the format that works best for you every time you register for a new course

Humanities Courses
The Bachelor of Arts in Humanities is a 45-credit program that can span departmental lines. Students will select a theme, topic, or historical period of interest that will serve as a focal point for their studies. With the assistance of the program director, each student will select a sufficient number of courses around their focal point to build a more profound understanding of the area of study. A synthesizing seminar or an independent study project is a required portion of the program.
Upon completing the program of study in Humanities, students will develop:
- To increase students’ competence in close analysis of texts across the humanities;
- To cultivate a appreciation for cultural difference and an understanding of other points of view;
- To improve students’ facility in writing clearly and correctly;
- To prepare students to engage in professions that require clear, precise, and effective oral and written communication.
