Falcons Picked Sixth in GNAC Preseason Baseball Poll

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 7, 2012) The Albertus Magnus baseball team has been chosen to finish the 2012 season in sixth place in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference according tothe league's preseason baseball poll, which was released earlier this week.

Returning in the top spot on the poll is 2011 GNAC Champion Saint Joseph's College of Maine, while Suffolk and Johnson & Wales round out the top-three teams. Lasell came out in the fourth spot with GNAC newcomer Anna Maria College in fifth. Both Albertus and Emerson share the No. 6 position, according to this year's votes.

Albertus finished the 2011 season with a 12-20 overall record and an 8-6 showing in GNAC play before falling to Lasell in the GNAC Tournament by a score of 8-5.

This season, the Falcons will be led by captains Kyle Calechman (North Haven, Conn.), Malcolm Mendez (New York, N.Y.), Jon Almonte (New York, N.Y.) and Matthew Finkenzeller (Wolcott, Conn.). Also returning to the 2012 squad is 2011 All-Conference Second Team member Robert Gambardella (North Haven, Conn.), who will anchor the Falcons' outfield.

Albertus begins its season on Sunday, March 11 when the Falcons head south to take on Washington & Lee University in a 1:00 p.m. non-conference battle.
