Falcons Improve to 9-1 on the Year with Two Victories

Falcons Down Webb 3-0 in Men's Volleyball

(March 8, 2012) The Albertus Magnus men's volleyball team downed Webb Institute by a score of 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-10) on Sunday afternoon as part of the Falcons' tri-match at Yeshiva University.

Brendan Charamut (Southington, Conn.) led the Falcons with12 kills in 20 attempts as he committed just one hitting error. Carlos Torres (Adjuntas, Puerto Rico) dished out 24 assists for the Falcons, while he added five digs and three service aces.

The Falcons dominated play as they held Webb to just four kills on the afternoon. Albertus won the first set of the match by a convincing25-9 score before earning a 25-14 win in the second set.

Freshman Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.) added five kills and six digs for the Falcons as well.

Falcons Improve to 9-1 with 3-0 Win Over Yeshiva

(March 8, 2012) Brendan Charamut (Southington, Conn.) recorded 19 kills to lead the Albertus Magnus men's volleyball to a 3-0 (25-12,25-18, 25-14) win over Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon in New York. Charamut recorded just three hitting errors in his 19 attempts for the Falcons.

With the victory, the Falcons improve to 9-1 on the year after defeating Yeshiva for the second time this season. Albertus opened the season with seven-straight wins before their first loss at Lasell on March 8but the Falcons were able to bounce back from the loss to win two matches into day's tri-match. The Maccabees fall to 7-14 on the year with the non-conference loss.

Albertus recorded 11 kills in the opening set and hit .550 with no errors then added 17 kills in the second set and 18 in the third. Yeshiva never connected for double-digit kills in any set.

Chase Brinton (Bethany, Conn.) added eight kills and five digs for the Falcons, while Carlos Torres (Adjuntas, Puerto Rico) dished out 40assists in the match. Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.) continued his solid performances as he chipped in with seven digs and five kills. Douglas DeSousa (Danbury, Conn.) added eight kills and five digs for the Falcons as well.

Albertus will return to action on Monday night when the Falcons travel to Sarah Lawrence to take on the Gryphons in a 6:00 p.m. match.
