Course: Ethnic and Gender Issues in Mental Health (PY-205-1) 

This course will explore the perception and interaction of cultural relevance and gender sensitivity as a necessity in case management and clinical work. Students will explore the mental health needs and norms of several ethnic groups in the United States including European, Native-American, African American, LatinoLatina, Asian American, Jewish and Arab American clients. Students will also gain an understanding of the role ethnicity and gender has in mental health and substance abuse treatment. In addition, they will examine the impact of oppression on women and other minority groups. Students will design a cultural collage and research their own ethnic, cultural and gender norms to gain a better understanding of themselves in relation to others.
