Course: Art Therapy and the Family (AT-514-1)

Art Therapy and the Family is an elective course designed to provide an overview of the field of family therapy and its various systemic perspectives. It incorporates the hands-on training necessary for gaining the basic professional skills of an art therapist working with diverse family forms. Students will examine their assumptions about what a "family" is, and how it develops within a socialcultural context. Didactic, group, and experiential formats emphasize the importance of the self of the therapist in the family system explored through self-reflection and collaboration. Ethical considerations and multicultural issues will be integrated into the content and process of the course. 3 credits
